Andrej Leben, born in Bleiburg/Pliberk, Carinthia, in 1966, studied Slavic studies and ethnology at the University of Vienna as well as at the University of Ljubljana and Charles University in Prague. In 1995 he received his PhD in Vienna. Since 1997, he is working as a literary translator. From 2004-2010 assistant for Slovenian at the Institute for Slavic Studies at the University of Vienna, since 2010 professor of Slovenian literature and cultural studies at the Institute for Slavic Studies at the University of Graz. 2016 and 2017 mentor, since 2018 director and supervisor of the OeAD Summer Literary Translation Workshop (German-Slovenian-German). Leben is the recipient of several working scholarships and accolades.
