Alenka Novak was born in Ljubljana in 1958. After completing her studies in German and Italian at the Faculty of Philosophy in Ljubljana, she began working as a librarian. Her first translations, mainly of sociological texts, which appeared in specialist journals, also date from this time. This was followed by two jobs as an employed translator. She has been working as a freelance translator since 2002. Her literary translations include works by R.M. Rilke (Geschichten vom lieben Gott), Michael Ende (Vollmondlegende) and Milo Dor (Der Mann, der fliegen konnte). Alenka Novak has been a member of the Association of Slovenian Literary Translators since 2005.
