There are two of them, right from the start, there they are, the twins Alissa and Anton. In the small two-room flat in post-Soviet Moscow, they claw at and hold each other’s curls when their parents go at each other. Later, in provincial West Germany, they roam the corridors of the asylum centre, stealing cigarettes from the rooms of strangers and smelling their perfume bottles. And then, suddenly, when Alissa has dropped her math studies in Berlin because she wants to focus on her boxing training, Anton disappears without a trace.
