Letitia and Sorin work together at a cultural institute in Romania. It is the 70s. Their love is consumed in secret – in the shadows behind a statue of Lenin or in the run-down flat of a friend. Both are trapped in their respective family routines and by the restrictions of the Communist regime. But it is also the era before Ceauşescu’s rise to power. A brief space in time marked by freedom, sex, consumerism and moments of happiness. Masterfully Gabriela Adameşteanu weaves together the stories of several generations living in the transition period, bringing it vividly alive.
