Unser Deutschlandmärchen
Publisher: Mikrotext

Unser Deutschlandmärchen is a family story told by a multitude of voices. Women of several generations and the son – born in Almanya (Germany) – remember in poetic, oftentimes mythical, stark images, and in monologues, dialogues, dreams, prayers and through choirs their history. Dinçer Güçyeter tells the story of the Turkish Greeks, of their archaic rootedness in Anatolia’s soil, and of the struggles faced by the Gastarbeiter generation and their children in Germany, where they started a new life. The story takes us from the beginning of the last century almost to the Germany of the here and now. The author pulls no punches and mentions all the rapes, the misunderstandings, the conflicts at work (be it at the shoe factory, on the fields or in the bar one owns) in their history. Then there are the mother’s expectations of how her son’s life should look in the future – a markedly different life from the one the son envisions for himself in his dreams.
