Selma Asotić has made a name for herself as a young feminist voice from Bosnia. Her poetry is simple, vivid, and incisive. She finds a language for the tension between home and foreignness; for love and lesbian desire; for the long, generational journey of women from silence to speech — but above all for war as the brutal, ever-present companion that haunts her dreams, and to which she still holds her ground when, grown old and anxious about its own significance, it has to vomit: ‘It’s all right, old man, I still remember you.’
In these 37 poems, Selma Asotić distills experiences that do not cease but, on the contrary, continue to unfold.
