Iar dimineaţa vor veni ruşii

When Russia occupied Crimea in 2014 and launched a war in eastern Ukraine, Moldovan writer Iulian Ciocan was still working on his novel In the Morning the Russians Will Arrive (2015). The book is an almost prophetic satire about a Russian invasion launched from the separatist region of Transnistria in the Republic of Moldova.
In the novel, a young academic tries to publish his own book about a Russian invasion of Moldova.
The narrative intertwines two compelling storylines, with the fantastical elements foreshadowed by a reality that already exists—like a prophecy of a dark and uncertain future. With sharp, biting humor, the author portrays post-Soviet society in Chișinău, the Moldovan capital, illuminating the deep tensions between the Romanian- and Russian-speaking communities as well as the political and social challenges that have shaped the country since independence.
