Non-Fiction
Since the 1960s, contemporary works of art can no longer be judged in terms of conventional aesthetics. Instead of creating “art pieces”, artists are increasingly producing events that, in their execution, suspend the old aesthetic relations of subject and object, of material and symbolic status. In order to make this development comprehensible, Erika Fischer-Lichte develops in her fundamental study that focuses on the concept of performance an aesthetics of the performative.
