Them main character in Ljahova’s  short-story collection Квартал „Зона обиколна“ is no one else but the big city itself, namely the Bulgarian capital Sofia. The volume features thirteen stories that are inter-connected in a circular manner. But, although Sofia is the centre of Bulgarian live, Ljahova, in her stories, points her gaze on the peripheries and edges of this sprawling city.
