Svetla Marinova was born in 1964 and studied sociology at the Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski. After finishing her post-graduate study of cultural sociology in Sofia, she began her doctoral studies in Berlin and earned her PhD in 1997. She has been lecturing and researching at her alma mater in Sofia since 1999. She has traveled often to Berlin and other German cities for research reasons. Svetla Marinova has published monographs, studies and articles and translated scientific works from German to Bulgarian. She translated works of Sigmund Freud, Ulrich Beck, Walter Benjamin, Norbert Elias and Elisabeth Ströker.
