Snješka Knežević

Snješka Knežević, born in 1938 in Zagreb, studied Art History and the German Language. In 1962 she began to work for Radio Zagreb, she also published articles about architecture, urbanism and the protection of monuments. In 1990 she left her job at the radio station and as an external employee of the Institute for Art History, devoted herself to academic work. In 1994 she obtained her Ph.D. in Art History. Since 2000 she has taught Art History in Zagreb at the Philosophical Faculty and since 2002 also at the Faculty of Architecture. Snješka Knežević has been a member of the Croatian Association of Literary Translators since 1964. She is also a member of the Croatian P.E.N. Centre, the Journalists’ Association and the Art History Association. She translates prose, plays, poetry and works on art history. Her translations include works by Walter Benjamin, Hermann Broch, Peter Handke, Ulrich Plenzdorf, Bertolt Brecht, Ödön von Horvath, Theodor Adorno, Ernst Bloch, Alfred Döblin, Günter Grass, Franz Kafka and Thomas Bernhard.
