Rafik Schami

Rafik Schami, born in 1946 in Damascus, has been living in Germany since 1971. In 1979 he completed his PhD in Chemistry. Since 2002 he is a member of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts. His books have been translated into more than 24 languages and have received various accolades and prizes, including the prize “Gegen das Vergessen – Für Demokratie” (Against Forgetting – For Democracy) in 2011, and more recently in 2015 the Great Prize of the Academy of Children and Youth Literature as well as the prize of the Bible and Culture Foundation.
