Nicolas Bouvier, born in 1929 in Lancy, was a Swiss writer, photographer, and journalist. His famous travel books made him one of the cult authors of the genre. He travelled, among other, through Yugoslavia, Turkey, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Japan. His best-known books are his debut work L’Usage du Monde (1963), Chronique japonaise (1975) and Le poisson-scorpion (1981). Nicolas Bouvier died in 1998 in Geneva.
