Maja Haderlap was born in 1961 in Bad Eisenkappel and lives in Klagenfurt. She studied theatre arts and German philology at the University of Vienna and was a dramaturgic and production assistant in Trieste and Ljubljana. From 1989 to 1992, she was the editior of the literary magazine mladje of the Slovenian minority in Carinthia. Since 1989, she has been teaching at the Alpen-Adria-University in Klagenfurt; from 1992 to 2007, she was the head dramaturg of the Klagenfurt City Theatre. Maja Haderlap writes poems, prose and essays and translates from Slovenian to German. She received various awards for her works, among other the renowned Ingeborg Bachmann Award in 2011.
