                                                                            Jutta Richter was born in 1955. After her one-year’s stay in Detroit, she published her first book while she was still in high-school. She studied theology, German studies and journalism in Münster. Since 1978, she has been living as a freelance writer at the Westerwinkel Castle in Münsterland. She received numerous prizes for her writing, including the German Youth Literature Prize for the book Der Tag, als ich lernte, die Spinnen zu zähmen [The Day I Learned to Tame Spiders, 2000] and the 2005 Catholic Children’s and Youth Literature Prize for the book Hechtsommer (title of the English translation: The Summer of the Pike).
