Jan Wagner, born in Hamburg in 1971, is a German poet, essayist and translator, and the recipient of the Georg Büchner Prize (2017) and Leipzig Book Fair Prize (2015). He has translated into German Charles Simic, James Tate, Simon Armitage, Matthew Sweeney, Jo Shapcott and Robin Robertson, among others. His own work has been translated into more than forty languages. Since 1995, Wagner lives and works in Berlin.
