Hertha Pauli, born in Vienna in 1906, was an author and actress. After the annexation of Austria, she emigrated to the USA via Switzerland and France. She wrote novels, non-fiction and books for young adults and also worked as a journalist. Her brother was the 1945 Nobel Prize winner in physics, Wolfgang Pauli. She wrote down the story of her escape in her last book Der Riss der Zeit geht durch mein Herz, which was published by Zsolnay in 1970 and republished in 2022. Pauli died in New York in 1973
