Hermann Lübbe was born in 1926 in Aurich/East Frisia and is Professor of Philosophy and Political Theory at the University of Zurich. From 1966 to 1970 he was Secretary of State, initially at the Ministry of Education, then at the office of the Minister President of North Rhine-Westphalia. His great work was awarded, amongst others, the Ernst-Robert-Curtius Prize for Essay Writing (1990) and the prize of the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Foundation (1995).
