Hermann Broch

Hermann Broch, born in 1886, grew up in Vienna. He was at the head of the textile factory belonging to his family for 20 years before he decided to live as a writer. As a Jew, he had to flee Austria after the Annexation in 1938. He emigrated to the USA and lived at first in New York. In 1942, he made Princeton, New Jersey, as his domicile. In 1949, he moved to New Haven, Connecticut, where he was in contact with a faculty of the Yale University. He was a honoris causa lecturer at the German Department there. Hermann Broch died in 1951.
