Hans Keilson was born in 1909 in Bad Freienwalde. A doctor and writer, he emigrated in the year 1936 to the Netherlands, where he lived until his death in 2011. His first novel Das Leben geht weiter (Life Goes On) was published in 1933. The novella Komödie in Moll (Comedy in a Minor Key) was translated into numerous languages and became an international bestseller in 2010. Hans Keilson was the recipient of a string of awards, including the Johann Heinrich Merck Prize, the Moses Mendelssohn Medal, the Humboldt Medal, as well as the ‘Welt’ Literature Prize.
