Giorgio Orelli, born in 1921 in Airolo, was a Swiss writer, poet, and translator. He studied at the University of Freiburg in Switzerland and was a student of the Italian Romance philologist Gianfranco Contini. Later on he taught Italian Literature in Bellinzona. He contributed to a number of literary magazines and moreover became famous for his translations of Goethe and Andri Peer. He received many awards for his work, including the Great Schiller Prize in 1988. Giorgio Orelli died in 2013 in Bellinzona.
