Gert Hofmann was born in 1931 in Limbach, Saxony, and died in 1993 in Erding near Munich. He worked as an independent writer and received numerous literary awards, including the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize, the Alfred Döblin Prize, and the Munich Literature Prize. He passed away in 1993.
