Daša Drndić

Daša Drndić was born in 1946 in Zagreb. She studied in Belgrade, Illinois and Ohio. Between 1972 and 1992, she was working as a radio play editor at Radio Belgrade. In 1992, she moved to Rijeka. In 1993, she worked for the refugee relief organization of the United Nations (UNHCR) and went into exile into Canada in 1995 with her daughter who was 12 at that time. From 1995 to 1997 she taught at the University of Toronto and wrote the novel Dying in Toronto.

Daša Drndić earned her doctorate with a thesis on Lillian Hellman. She is a lecturer at the English department at the University of Rijeka. She has translated many notable writers from English to Croatian and has written many essays, novels and book reviews. For her novel Sonnenschein (Fraktura, Zagreb, 2007) she received literature prizes Fran Galović and Kiklop for the best novel of the year.
