Christian Kracht, born in 1966 in Gstaad/Switzerland, grew up in the USA, Canada and south of France. His father was a chief representative of Axel Springer. Kracht worked as a journalist for magazines such as Tempo and Spiegel. His first novel Faserland, published in 1995, is seen as a precursor of the contemporary German pop literature.
