Dada returns to her home town to find out why her brother Daniel has committed suicide. Of the family, only the mother and the elder sister, who have never got over his death, remain. With her enquiries, Dada stirs up past memories of her childhood full of Western cowboy films, whose heroes Daniel and Dada idolised, and the fights between Native Americans and cowboys, that they re-enacted together with the children from the other side of the train tracks. Daniel’s suicide seems to Dada like a betrayal and with the images of the past crammed inside her head she sets out on a painful journey to find an explanation. Olja Savičević-Ivančević’s novel is a witty and poetic examination of the almighty idols of our childhood and the question about guilt and revenge.
