                                                                            Tomaž Šalamun, (1941-2014) was one of the best-known and most translated Slovenian poets. His volume of poetry Poker (1966) marked a new beginning in Slovenian poetry and was followed by 30 more volumes. He spent many years in the United States, teaching at the University of Iowa and working for a while as the Cultural Attaché at the Slovenian Embassy in New York. Tomaž Šalamun’s poems have been translated into almost all European languages.
