Alfred Schütz

Alfred Schütz was born in 1899 in Vienna. He studied Law and Political Science and worked for various banks after completing his studies. In 1932 he published his monograph Der sinnhafte Aufbau der sozialen Welt [The Phenomenology of the Social World]. In 1938 Alfred Schütz emigrated via Paris to New York, where he continued to work for a Viennese bank. From 1944 he taught at the New School of Social Research, published socio-scientific essays and worked on Strukturen der Lebenswelt [The Structures of the Life-World]. Alfred Schütz died in 1959 in New York.
