The king of an unnamed small country dies in a hotel in Zurich. German Hanni Gretl and her Somali lover Sulejman are caught up in the hustle and bustle of the funeral procession and are soon followed by several people, including grim-looking Dragan. But instead of ending up in a brawl, they end up in a café where they start a wild discussion about the Balkans and how they are connected to Africa. The king also joins in, sharing his memories of the early days of the UN and anecdotes about bizarre encounters with Vladimir Nabokov and Jorge Luis Borges.
