Durs Grünbein, born in Dresden in 1962, is one of the most important German poets and essayists. After the fall of the Iron Curtain, he travelled through Europe, to Southeast Asia and to the United States. He was a guest of the German Department at New York University and the Villa Aurora in Los Angeles. He is the recipient of several accolades for his work, including the Georg Büchner Prize, the Friedrich Nietzsche Prize, the Friedrich Hölderlin Prize, the Polish Zbigniew Herbert International Literary Award and the Premio Internazionale NordSud of the Fondazione Pescarabruzzo. His books have been translated into several languages. He divides his time between Berlin and Rome.
