Cornelia Funke was born in 1958 in Dorsten, Germany. She studied pedagogy and illustration in Hamburg and worked for a long time as a freelance children’s book illustrator. Because she didn’t always like the stories she illustrated, she began to write herself. Among her greatest successes are several book series like Ghosthunters, Wild Chicks, and the Inkheart trilogy. Cornelia Funke has become the most successful and well-known German-language author of children’s books and young adult literature. She has authored more than 50 books and her works have been published in more than 40 languages. Cornelia Funke lives in Italy with her family. In 2020, she received the Special Lifetime Achievement Award at the German Youth Literature Awards.
