Janosch (Horst Eckert)

Janosch was born in Zaborze/Upper Silesia in 1931. After the war and his resettlement, he trained as a blacksmith and locksmith and worked as a labourer in a textile factory. He began his career as an artist in Munich in the 1950s. He is now internationally renowned as an illustrator, storyteller and novelist with over a hundred books for children and adults. He has received many prizes for his work, including the Prix Jeunesse, the Prix Danube and the German Youth Literature Prize/Picture Book. Janosch lives and works in Tenerife.
