The novel Svila, škare (in English “Silk, Scissors”) is an autobiographical account of the author’s childhood in Belgrade, her family’s move to Zagreb (in 1941, after the outbreak of war), growing up in this city, and of her failed marriage. Of life as a steady routine. This routine though is interrupted by her departure for West Berlin. The author examines her attitude towards her mother and father, that is, towards the female and male world, and, as a woman brought up in a traditional patriarchal environment, she speaks of the necessity to fight for her own place in the world.
