Superficially, this prose text adheres to the almost trivially routine: complaints about the strains of everyday life in a foreign country, co-existence with wearisome contemporaries – soul catchers, drainers of energy, floro-erotomaniacs and many others besides –, about illnesses suffered or imagined and all the other inconveniences of life. What is special is that each of these texts walks a thin line, dividing the ridiculous from the awful, humour from the fear of death.
